HOT Vinyasa
- energetic class that uses a flowing series of postures to create heat
- the teacher walks the class through the flow together a few times, then each student moves at his or her own pace
- good for new students who are physically active, interested in the fitness benefits of yoga, and want to dive right in
- practice is typically accompanied by more up-beat music
Ashtanga Vinyasa
- more traditional yoga class that begins with sun salutations (warm-ups), then moves through a series of specific postures in a prescribed order
- good for new students who want to learn the foundations upon which all our other classes are based, or existing students who wish to expand upon their understanding of basic postures
- class is generally without music
Candlelight Vinyasa
- evening vinyasa (see vinyasa yoga) practice lit by candles
- emphasis on releasing tension that may have been accumulated throughout your day
- accompanied by a wide range of music
- finishes with a long sivasana (resting pose)…perfect way to end your day!
Community Yoga
- COMPLIMENTARY class on Saturday afternoons
- typically a slow flow class
- taught by a graduate of the Jonny Kest Teacher Training program
- good for everyone!
- This class is currently taught at Birmingham on Sunday, 1:45 and at West Bloomfield on Saturday, 12:30pm

Slowburn
- this class is an inward jury, articulating breath and posture in such a way that students begin to explore feeling postures, rather than seeing poses
- from the slow progressive sequences, to the longer holding postures, the entire body and mind are brought into balance in this focused yet calming class
- in this class students are encouraged to explore all the benefits of each posture within the boundaries and framework of their own individual expressions
- from the first yoga class to the development of a daily practice, this class is meant to serve all students
Follow the Yogi
- the teacher leads the class through his or her own morning practice, based on a traditional ashtanga yoga practice
- postures are called out in Sanskrit
- good for students new to the Center For Yoga who may have previous yoga experience, or students who wish to deepen their personal practice
- practice is always without music
- a quiet and dim room
- class is followed by an optional seated meditation approximately 20 minutes
- class does not meet on moon days

Intro to Vinyasa
- begin class with an introduction to a basic warm up flow
(linking postures together through breath)
- as warm-ups conclude, moving into a series of strong standing or balancing
postures (longer hold to light the fire!)
- then, making your way to the floor for abdominal work, seated stretches,
and meditation
- this class may include simple inversions and/or partner work guided by the
teacher
- class will be accompanied by music
- perfect transition from slow flow to vinyasa!

Yinyasa
- practice begins slowly, easing into a vigorous vinyasa yoga ( see vinyasa yoga ) flow for 30 minutes
- last 30 minutes spent in long holding yin (see yin yoga ) floor postures
- accompanied by music appropriate for both vinyasa and yin classes
Up Against the Wall
- slow flow class that incorporates the use of the wall to provide support and a creative approach to postures
- helps increase awareness of alignment and takes some of the fear out of balancing
- good for everyone!

Yin Yoga
- hour long practice composed of all long holding seated postures (each typically held for 5-7 minutes)
- ideal for the student looking to find a deep stretch, as yin yoga moves into the connective tissues and darker areas that may be hard to reach through other styles of yoga.
- generally accompanied by slow, relaxing music
- dim or candle-lit room
- feel free to bring cushions/props/blankets
